HourLock Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 October 2026

HourLock is a Chrome extension that locks websites you choose for at least one hour. It has no accounts, no servers, and no analytics. This page explains exactly what it stores and what it does not.

What HourLock stores

When you lock a site, HourLock saves these items on your own device, in Chrome's extension storage, and nowhere else:

This list of locked sites is information about the websites you visit, so we treat it as sensitive: it is used only to block those sites and show their countdown. When a lock ends, its record is deleted. Uninstalling HourLock removes everything it stored.

What HourLock does not do

The one network request it makes

When you lock a site, HourLock may ask that same site for its icon, either the icon address your tab was already showing or the site's standard /favicon.ico file. This request goes directly from your browser to the site you are locking, includes no cookies or login information, and nothing is sent to HourLock or anyone else. On the lock screen and in the popup, the saved icon may also be loaded from that same address.

Permissions and why they are needed

Your control

You can remove HourLock at any time from chrome://extensions, which deletes all of its data. Removing or disabling the extension also ends any lock.

Children

HourLock does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children.

Changes
